Hey! So you’re drawn to the field of Data Analytics. Do you like to question almost everything and anything around you? Do you enjoy finding answers to your questions? Are you good at communicating your ideas and thoughts in a way everyone is able to understand?

Well, then Data Analytics might be the perfect field for you to work in! 🤩

Maybe you already have a glimpse of it, or you’re a newbie, whatever maybe the case, let me take you on this roller coaster ride and explore if this is the field for you!

What does Analytics actually mean?

So the google definition says analytics to be “the systematic computational analysis of data or statistics”, which has too many technical terms for my understanding 😂 So let’s break it down.

Analytics is just a process of analyzing datasets or any form of data, to know all the hidden secrets from it, which may be helpful for us in many ways. Well that sounds like a game everyone would be interested in!

What is data you ask? Data here is just different types of information that usually is represented in tabular form. Data can be text, numeric, or even images.

What does it actually involve?

Now that we have a basic idea, let’s look at what steps does it involve without getting into intricacies. The steps to data analysis -

The first step is for sure one of our favorite things to do, defining our questions, making sure why exactly are we going to use analytic.

Second step involves the process of collecting data through a variety of online resources.

Once we collect the data it has to be organized to be analysed. Organization can be done in any software that can take statistical data. Hereafter we come to our favorite part. We try to find answers to our questions from the data! Start digging into it, explore your data, manipulate it, ask more questions, take notes.

/* This step would probably be the longest and the most enjoyable part of the analysis😊*/

The final step is to communicate our findings, thoughts and predictions. Well your friend may not understand the process, but let’s break down the results for them. We can try and create easy-to-understand visualizations, through graphs, figures, tables, pictures.

Therefore in layman terms we can consider analysis to be a 3 step process —

/* Though we have a lot of interesting steps in between them🤩*/

It’s just collect → analyze → communicate

So where do we actually use data analytics?

Some of it’s most important applications are in the fields of Security, i.e., in finding anomalies or threats, transportation, risk detection and management, healthcare, city planning, digital advertising and many more.

Data has evolved over the last decade. Lots of data is being generated at every sector of business. At this point data analytics is important as it helps businesses improve their performances. Since data is everywhere, therefore Data Analytics is in use in almost every sector.
